My critical views on "Waiting for Godot"

1) For my point of view ‘Waiting Godot’ deals with the norms that a desire, a fulfillment, a dream, a hope of somebody is still waiting which has no any end. It is useless, meaningless, monotonous and absurd or nothingness, but in nothingness there is something (A hope).A new day will come with new desire that something fruitful will come for somebody in life. One or two ways it may be God, a fruitful desire will come for somebody who is eagerly waiting that has no any end.

‘Waiting for Godot’ gives a message that while doing nothing there is something. “Nothing is also better than something” A person who always has desire for any achievement till birth to death his list of desire will never come to end. In the same way for Godot there is ‘waiting’ which has no any end or meaning. When we are on death bed at that we have many desires to give this thing or that thing to our members, means no end of desire when we are on death bed. There is no meaning of life. Nothingness remains in life.

(2) Existentialism became prominent in the mid 19th and 20th century. Existentialism is well-known philosophical movement which is related with human condition. The main idea of this movement is existence proceeds essence means main theme of existentialism is that for human beings is the fact they are only individual , no meaning. Thought individual and their ideas and thought remains important but Existentialism has no any great impact apart from philosophy. What is a purpose to be a human? Are we doing the thing which really absurd or no meaningless than what is our existence? Even Sartre himself once said “Existentialism? I don’t know what that is.”

(3) Sisyphus myths show the absurdity of man’s life. Sisyphus was condemned to do the task forever which is meaningless. The task is pushing a boulder up a mountain and its roll down and repeatedly pushing a boulder up a mountain. The task has no any meaning, meaningless.

(4) The ‘Ubermench’ it means ‘Over man’, ‘Over human’, ‘Superman’, ‘Superhuman’. Zarathustra is the one who is willing to risk all for the sake of enhancement of humanity. Over man is someone who can establish his own values affect to others.

(5) The term ‘Absurd’ was coined by Martin Esslin in his essay ‘Theatre of Absurd’. In these plays absurd means man’s reaction to a world apparently without meaning. Such plays have No Beginning – No Middle- No End. No plot construction this is the structure of Absurd theatre. This kind of plays becomes monotonous. It has no any meaning. Absurd is also connected with Existentialism and in existentialism we see that human existence has no meaning or purpose and therefore no any way for communication.

(6) By showing the images of a tree evening, growing leave and coming of night and moon Samuel Beckett trying to show the real image of human life that we are still waiting with endless desire that something will happen which is good for us. One or two it may be god or any achievement means our desire has no any end it continuously going for waiting something same way Vladimir and Estragon are waiting. Growing of leaves arise a hope, Night shows the darkness of life and moon shows that tomorrow will come with new hope as mankind normally believes. But into the end of desire there is nothingness.

Apart from all this I have one question that Samuel Beckett says life has no meaning or nothingness in life through ‘waiting for Godot’ then what is the purpose to live life? Can we say that the life in which we are living has no any meaning? If it has no meaning then, what is the meaning to be a human?
